Metal roofs offer many advantages including an extended lifespan than other roofing materials such as asphalt and wood roofs. Metal roofs can withstand environmental damage including hail, heavy rain, snow, and high winds. Metal roofs have also been commendable for protecting homes during forest and brush fires. Some insurance companies in specific areas even offer homeowners a reduced rate on their insurance when they install a metal roof.
Metal roofs come in three different styles including standing-seam roofing, panel roofing, and look-a-likes including tile, cedar and slate. Standing-seam metal roofs have large ridges, which require crimping or soldering to connect them. Panel roofing resembles standing-seam roofing however, these require being screwed down rather than soldering.
